Can I install the Stavoblock facade on my own?
Yes. If you are skilful and have the proper equipment, you can start working. The installation manual is available on our website. We are available to address any questions, or we can also provide training on the site.
How is the Stavoblock facade installed?
First, you install the load-bearing grid. Then you anchor the protection against rodents on the Omega bars to the footing of the house and insert thermal insulation, which you attach to the wall using disc shear plates. Then, it is time to start installing the Stavoblock facade bricks. Everything is described in the installation manual.
Does it mean I have to screw each brick individually?
No. When the load-bearing and spacing Omega bars and the thermal insulation are installed, you simply lay the individual rows of bricks, one on another, and the Omega bar mounts lock in the groove on the back of the brick. There are two methods of laying the bricks on the grid: facing bond, or no-bond – to cut. The individual rows of the facing can be “LOCKED” to the load-bearing Omega bar by bending the bottom mount of the Omega bar using side cutting pliers. That prevents any vertical movement of the facing. WE RECOMMEND LOCKING EVERY TENTH AND LAST ROW /end row/. When the bricks are locked, they are inserted horizontally to the Omega bar mounts. When laying bricks on the wall, alternate between various pallets to achieve better identity of colour. Check the planeness during installation using the water level. It is important that the bricks are properly laid to prevent penetration of rainwater into the facade casing. Lay the bricks so that the top part of the brick is the tongue and the bottom part of the brick is the groove.
Does each brick have the suspension grooves?
Yes, each brick has two grooves forming a V-joint on its “back”. This groove position is a typical feature of the whole Stavoblock product series.
How are the Omega spacing bars anchored?
The Omega bars are attached to the wall vertically, with axial distance of 470 mm using the adjustable angle bars. The angle bars are attached to the wall using Mungo dowels 10x100 mm with a hexagonal bolt, in horizontal spacing of 900 mm and below. The Omega bars are connected using a connecting piece and two M6x12 bolts with flanged nuts. Gently tighten the bolts and use force to pull the bars apart. Then, tighten the bolt nuts to the end. That will provide a constant distance between bars, which should be 4 mm. The adjustable angle bars are used for levelling the load-bearing grid vertically and horizontally and they provide a sufficient stability of the spacing grid. Their dimensions are determined by the thickness of the used insulation and the requirement for offsetting the Stavoblock facade from the wall.
Can I also use wooden spacing bars?
No. Never use wooden spacing bars for the installation of Stavoblock facade.
What to do when one of the bricks in the facade gets damaged?
The bricks can be replaced without the need of disassembling the neighbouring bricks. Carefully cut out the damaged brick, e.g. using a sharp blade. Collect all fragments of the broken brick from the spot to be repaired. Then, take a new brick, lightly lift the top row of bricks and insert the new brick to the original spot. If the brick is locked, you pliers to bend the bottom mount on the Omega bar towards the wall so that you can suspend the brick on the top mounts. Sometimes, it is better to replace the damaged brick from the closest corner. Carefully disassemble the corner brick in the row of the damaged brick and then insert the side tiling to the missing spot and add the remaining bricks.
Do any small parts of the material loosen from the brick surface?
Yes. This can happen in all products with split surface treatment of the facing. When splitting products, the individual grains on the level of the product crack (split) at the facing due to the splitting knives. The loosened particles and grains then remain trapped between the two facings of the product. During installation and after installation, the surface of the product may seem to be crumbling and dusty. This is not a product defect; they are just loosened particles after the splitting process. Atmospheric effects on the facade (rain, wind) remove the particles from the surface of the bricks.
What is the maintenance of the facade, does it have to be painted?
No, you never ever need to paint your facade again. If required, you can wash it with water.
Can I use combined bolts for anchoring the bars?
Yes, you can. The combined M6 x 80 bolts are used for “tight” wall cladding when the distance between the rear face of the Stavoblock brick and the wall is only 10 to 40mm. To level and set the bars, simply use thin M6 nuts.
Can I use Stavoblock bricks in the interior?
Yes, you definitely can. Follow the installation manual, or use dry-bond building adhesive to attach the tiling.
